Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, TGH has been providing critical support to the most vulnerable population of eastern Ukraine. In July 2020 with financial support from UNICEF and USAID/OFDA TGH launched an emergency project for COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control. Employing an innovative e-voucher modality, the project aims at enhancing access to essential hygiene items and at strengthening the capacity of 480 institutions including educational, healthcare and social institutions and 6000 households along the contact line benefiting over 300 000 people in over 200 locations.

The e-voucher modality that TGH has been successfully employing for over five years in Ukraine, allows for real-time monitoring of e-vouchers distributions and timely and informed decision-making. This system ensures rapid aid delivery and great coverage of beneficiaries including in hard to reach areas. The e-voucher approach is especially appreciated by beneficiaries with disabilities as the project envisages home deliveries by shops directly to beneficiaries.

The TGH e-voucher modality and approach are extremely relevant in the COVID-19 context as it allows for the provision of rapid and timely assistance simultaneously in multiple locations including during lockdown periods thus ensuring the safety of beneficiaries.

Importantly, the project contributes to enhancing the capacity and resilience of TGH partner-shops along the contact line, providing them opportunities to generate more income, create new job places and develop new professional skills and competencies. Through increased interactions between partner shops and project beneficiaries in conflict-affected communities, the project aims at strengthening social links between community members.
