FUNDING
Populations displaced by the conflicts in Darfur are vulnerable to food insecurity. This vulnerability could increase during the rainy season.
Improved seeds and agricultural tools will be distributed to vulnerable households, and training will be provided on better cultivation, land preparation, irrigation and fertilisation and conservation practices.
Training in agricultural techniques (land preparation, protection, fertilisation, harvesting and conservation) and marketing techniques (e.g. selling surplus crops to other beneficiaries) will encourage the development of small-scale farming for self-consumption. This will help improve nutrition through direct access to diversified sources of vegetables as well as living conditions through the resale of surplus crops.
Finally, a new activity will be developed: financial assistance in the form of cash transfers ($60 per month) will be provided to the most vulnerable households, who will be able to use this money according to their needs (e.g. purchase of food, non-food items, debt repayment, etc.).
