Level of the water on a building in Rason city

After the second torrential rainfalls on August 22nd the order for evacuation was given, while the third torrential rainfalls caused most severe damage in which 59 persons lost their lives, 5 399 houses including apartment blocks were damaged of which 1 320 totally destroyed and 11 632 persons were left homeless and who lost all their possessions.

Floods affected schools, kindergartens, hospitals and clinics and destroyed more than 125 hectares of cultivated land leaving no harvest, and infrastructural damage is widespread with collapsed bridges, road washouts, damage to culverts and channels, railroad tracks dangerously destabilized. The main city of Rason did not suffer much damage but in the two districts Rajin (population 107 640) and Son Bong (population 96 598) the effect of the flood was devastating, with deposits of mud and debris of more than 1 m.

Regarding the damages caused by this natural disasters, TGH concentrate its support on one of the most affected Dong in the Sonbong District (Paekhak Dong). We choose to support children between 0 and 6 years old by rehabilitating the Paekhak Dong kindergarten (around 120 children) which has been partly damaged by the floods.
