Launched in March 2004, the project featured several activities:

• Rehabilitation of the 9 vehicles used by the municipality to clean the drainage systems
• Repair and maintenance of 4 pumping stations
• Cleaning a 190 kilometre-long system for evacuation of used waters and rain waters
• Training the staff involved in maintenance of the drainage systems about security issues
• Provide security and maintenance equipment to the municipality of Khadamiya,
• Distribution of 2.400 hygiene kits (covering the needs of 14.400 people)
• Implementation of an awareness campaign about safe use of the drainage system and the relationship between hygiene (clean sanitary environment) and health

This campaign involved the Town Hall of Baghdad, the municipality of Khadamiya, 8 schools, 4 health centres, 3 mosques and the Youth Committee of the Hurriyah district.

400.000 inhabitants of Hurriyah directly benefited from this project.

TGH, with support from the United Nations Development Programme, subsequently offered to increase the benefits of this project by organising garbage collection in Hurriyah. This action has been repeatedly postponed. Indeed, the complexity of the situation in Iraq and the degradation of security conditions mean such projects are extremely difficult to implement.
