TGH has a longstanding experience in Child Protection and developed throughout the years a solid expertise in Child Protection capacity development activities. Within this project, TGH is building on its partner Kurdistan Save the Children (KSC)’s knowledge of Sulaymaniyah’s context (Kurdistan) to develop a relevant response to Child Protection issues. Justice Center (JC), the third partner of the project, completes the intervention by ensuring IDPs and returnees (including people in detention) receive the legal support they need to access fundamental rights and basic services.
TGH and KSC are responding to Child Protection issues in identified locations by providing a full package of activities. Both organisations run centers in their respective locations where case management, Psychosocial Support, parenting sessions, trainings and community-based Child Protection activities are provided. Both organisations also have itinerant teams providing the same activities in further locations including villages surrounding covered urban areas.
JC is in charge of the legal component of the project in Ninewa. JC’s lawyers work in out-of-camps settings through outreach service provision as well as in detention centers where they are already operating in coordination with the local police. They work closely with TGH Child Protection teams operating in the same areas (Til Keif and Rabia in Tel Afar) to ensure referrals as well as mutualisation of resources in Capacity building of both KSC and JC.This is a strong component of the intervention to strengthen local capacities in line with TGH broader strategy of localisation of aid and sustainability of solidarity action. Capacity building activities aim to develop the partners’ abilities in protection services provision as well as supporting their structural development. A capacity building plan is established, which includes but is not limited to, coaching or mentoring sessions for trainers, identification of relevant self-paced learning options and joint field visits. A support is also provided for the implementation of a Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy.
