Water flowing again in Matihani municipality

The TGH team in Nepal and our partner Ratauli Yuba Club recently celebrated with members of the Matihani community the completion of work to install water pumps that will provide access to quality water for a community of around 2,500 people.

Flashback: In April 2024, a devastating fire ravaged Matihani Municipality in Nepal, leaving many families without shelter, clothing, personal belongings and food. It took 10 fire trucks to bring the fire under control. The TGH team then mobilised to provide emergency relief to 108 households.

Already weakened by poor sanitation and poor quality water, the area was now facing a severe water shortage as the groundwater level had dropped and hand pumps had run dry.

TGH has therefore installed 6 new hand pumps to ensure access to water for the community. The pumps, which are reliable and easy to maintain, descend to depths of 400 metres to extract uncontaminated water. By installing them on elevated platforms, TGH has ensured that the pumps are not contaminated in the event of flooding.

At the same time, the project partners organise hygiene promotion sessions for community members.
