Vietnam (2002...2012)

Context

Since the adoption of the ‘Do Moi’ policy of opening up the country in 1989, the Vietnamese government has made the development of tourism a priority. Hotels are expanding and diversifying. However, few vocational training programmes have been set up, resulting in a shortage of qualified staff in the labour market.

In 1996, the Ministry of Tourism appealed to foreign investors (via the European Commission) to help establish effective training systems.

TGH in Vietnam

Triangle Génération Humanitaire decided to respond to this call by proposing the creation of a Franco-Vietnamese hotel school for young people in difficulty in Ho Chi Minh City. The school opened in 2001. Ten years later, in 2011, when the entire project was handed over to the Vietnamese authorities, 550 young people had been trained in the hotel and catering trade, most of them with a state diploma and a job.

Between 2006 and 2009, TGH also supported a vocational training centre for disabled people (improving training and access to employment).
