The Republic of Congo has abundant oil reserves, a large area of arable land, vast natural forests, mining reserves, a highly developed hydrographic network, a climate favourable to agriculture and a biodiversity that is of global importance for the regulation of greenhouse gases. Its geographical location in central Africa and its access to the sea complete the list of strategic assets.
However, in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire in particular, many children live on the streets. Family impoverishment, dropping out of school, divorce, remarriage, abuse… all force children to flee their homes, leaving them unprotected and vulnerable to risks such as trafficking and sexual exploitation.
TGH works with these children through its local partner, REIPER (Réseau des Intervenants sur le Phénomène des Enfants en Rupture, founded in 2003 and made up of 21 associations).
On the ground, TGH organised outreach work and initiatives to help minors detained in Brazzaville, improved sanitary conditions in reception centres and set up a process to monitor the education and vocational training of vulnerable minors. This action was part of the multi-country programme for street children in the Central African Republic and the Republic of Congo.
