Honduras (1999)

Context

At the end of October 1998, Hurricane Mitch swept through Honduras, destroying everything in its path. The hurricane killed more than 7,000 people and left 12,000 others missing. 95,000 homes were destroyed and two million people were left homeless and displaced. Triangle Génération Humanitaire decided to intervene in this emergency situation, as the victims of the hurricane were shocked and completely destitute, without shelter or food.

TGH in Honduras

The project started in January 1999 and by September the association will have renovated 189 houses in collaboration with the local association Compartir. Under the supervision of building technicians, the beneficiary families are actively involved in the work. Particular attention is being paid to the foundations and retaining walls to prevent further damage from bad weather.

Following this, TGH applied to the European Commission to work on an agricultural development programme, but the project was not accepted and the association left the South American continent.
