Burkina Faso (2006...2009)

Context

The Hauts-Bassins region is located in the west of Burkina Faso. It consists of three provinces: Houet, Kénédougou and Tuy. In 2002, the population was estimated at 1,232,891 inhabitants (10.4% of the population of Burkina Faso), which corresponds to a density of about 48 inhabitants/km². This region is one of the industrial zones of Burkina Faso. Bobo-Dioulasso’s position as an international crossroads means that trade is a key activity. A large number of national and foreign trading companies have their headquarters in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The region’s development issues are based on its economic assets. It has the natural potential to secure and support its development objectives. This natural potential is particularly favourable to agricultural production, livestock farming and mining. It is one of the most favoured regions of Burkina Faso.

TGH in Burkina Faso

TGH worked in Burkina Faso from 2006 to 2009. In the Hauts-Bassins region, the first project was the construction of a boarding school for the Institut des Jeunes Sourds (IJSF) du Faso in Bobo Dioulasso. Following the completion of this project, TGH supported the Institute in developing vocational poultry training to help young people integrate into society and become self-sufficient.

TGH has also carried out WASH activities in the province of Houet, including improving urban sanitation in the commune of Houndé and drilling a borehole in the village of Kotédougou.
