Programme details

This project, in consortium with Première Urgence Internationale (PUI), aims to mitigate the humanitarian and health impacts of the protracted conflict and subsequent economic crisis on vulnerable populations in Aden City and Ta’izz Governorate. It focuses on increasing access to safe drinking water, improving hygiene knowledge and services in health and education facilities, and sustainably improving people’s skills and knowledge to ensure safe WASH practices at community level.

The total project budget is €470,000, including €282,000 for TGH activities.

This project follows a long-term strategy that combines relief, rehabilitation and development. It aims to respond to urgent needs such as water distribution, while addressing the risk of epidemics such as cholera and dengue fever by raising awareness and promoting hygiene at community level, in schools and health units. The project will provide humanitarian and rehabilitation assistance to vulnerable populations in the governorates of Aden and Ta’izz, addressing the lack of access to quality WASH services, which affects health and nutrition.

TGH’s activities address the water, sanitation and hygiene needs of three schools in the At-Tawahi district of Aden, where students and teachers have no or inadequate access to water and sanitation facilities, and where poor hygiene practices have been observed, in part due to a lack of soap, cleaning materials and staff. In these three schools, TGH provides drinking water through emergency water tankers. At the community level, TGH is also supporting the Al Maalla and Al Bureiqah neighbourhoods by providing an average of 704 m3 of drinking water per month for the duration of the project.

In addition, as one of the main reasons why girls drop out of school is the lack of adequate sanitary facilities, TGH is rehabilitating 36 toilets in the three schools by cleaning them, rehabilitating sewage systems, connecting them to water, repairing collapsing ceilings, etc. TGH is also distributing hygiene kits and conducting hygiene promotion campaigns in the schools on water and disease vectors, sanitation-related diseases and environmental issues. TGH also distributes hygiene kits and conducts hygiene promotion campaigns in schools on water and contamination vectors, sanitation-related diseases and environmental issues.
