Programme details

All 11 schools which are targeted by this project have an in-school canteen which prepares lunch meals that the students have to buy. As the meal costs from 500 to 1 000 Yemeni Rials, many students cannot afford it. In addition, an important lack of diversity was observed.

TGH will, within this framework, provide adequate equipment and nutrition and food safety capacity development to 40 canteen staff, which will directly benefit 11,132 students. Among them, 4 650 students will further benefit from an improved access to healthy food as well as increased knowledge and awareness on nutrition and hygiene.

Activities include:

  • The development of support plans in coordination with the school management and the canteen staffs;
  • The light rehabilitation of the canteen if needed and / or the provision of adapted cooking equipment;
  • Trainings to canteen staff on nutrition and food safety;
  • Implementation of a school feeding scheme in 4 of the targeted schools;
  • Development of pedagogical activities in the 4 schools (such as school garden, dedicated events to nutrition…);
  • Hygiene promotion to supplement nutrition related messages (“wash-in-nut approach”).
