The conflict that broke out in Sudan in April 2023 exacerbated an already fragile situation for local populations, particularly those affected by drought. In Jebal Marah, TGH is supporting vulnerable communities by providing emergency water, sanitation and hygiene services.
The aim of this intervention is to support the populations affected by the crisis by guaranteeing them access to clean water through the construction and rehabilitation of water installations.TGH is organising the rehabilitation of water facilities (water points, hand pumps), including the installation of solarisation systems where appropriate, and the provision of water quality services and activities. In addition, TGH provides capacity-building and training for the affected populations so that they can benefit from the rehabilitated water facilities in the long term.
In addition, TGH ensures that the target populations have access to adequate, protected and gender-sensitive sanitation services. To this end, solid waste management tools are provided, as well as latrines (including the essential elements for their operation and maintenance).
Finally, TGH is setting up hygiene promotion and water quality services, as well as environmental health interventions for populations affected by the conflict. This involves hygiene promotion activities (awareness-raising among key members of the community, advocacy in community spaces, construction of hand-washing facilities). At the same time, hygiene products are distributed to the most vulnerable groups of displaced people (female-headed households, disabled people, adolescent women, etc.).
