This project will continue to develop economic recovery activities, focusing on organic farming and farmers’ health, in a target area comprising 4 districts. Around these themes, the agricultural cooperatives of the FRDEV partner NACCFL will be developing a number of activities, such as the creation of model farms, the dissemination of resilient farming methods adapted to climate change via leading farmers, the creation of nurseries for the production of locally adapted seeds, training in methods of protection against chemical inputs and raising awareness of the risks associated with their use, and so on.
The project has an impact at several levels: local, central and national. In rural areas, the project is directly involved with the first stages of the food system, i.e. production and processing. In order to support local initiatives that promote practices free of chemical inputs and plastic, access to investment is facilitated for farmers and entrepreneurs involved in the processing of agricultural products. Thanks to the extensive network of cooperatives, specific financial products are being created for this purpose and replicated throughout the country.
The project aims to ensure reliable storage of perishable goods, together with their distribution to end consumers. Finally, advocacy is being organised with central government to trigger dialogue on legislative changes.
