This programme is being carried out as part of a consortium with the Jiyan Foundation.

The hospital’s mental health department is one of the least developed and receives little support. TGH provides psychosocial support equipment and materials. At the same time, training and coaching are provided to the department’s staff and to the staff of the Jiyan Foundation (which is responsible for child protection activities at the hospital until 2022). In this way, TGH is ensuring that patients receive better, more individualised support from social workers.

Within the Department of Social Affairs (DoAS) in Halabja, there are only 4 social workers and 1 supervisor, who are directly employed by the government. TGH provides financial support to the DoSA social workers, in the form of bonuses including local transport. This will enable them to provide social guidance and psychosocial support sessions to children, families and targeted communities in Halabja, and to extend their geographical coverage.

This project is helping to increase resources and support by providing one-off but sustainable assistance to mental health services, with a particular focus on services for children.
