Programme details
The Syrian context is deteriorating due to the constant worsening of the economic crisis and shortages of all kinds. This project is a continuation of the activities and results achieved by TGH in the rural areas of Damascus, Hama, Dar’a and Idleb. It also extends TGH’s response to other localities, identified as having great needs due to their level of destruction, the disruption of basic services and the return of the population, including remote and poorly served areas (south of Idleb, north of Hama) or facing a deteriorating security situation (Dar’a). The action has been designed as part of a multi-sectoral and holistic approach, adapted to each location.
Through this project, TGH intends to provide a response to the most vulnerable populations in the target areas in terms of :
- Vital needs in terms of access to water, hygiene and sanitation;
- Education in emergencies and child protection for populations, through formal and non-formal education, in a safe learning environment.
On the WASH front, the project aims to provide the targeted communities with access to drinking water and sanitation. To this end, 4 water distribution systems will be rehabilitated, along with 2 sewage networks damaged by the conflict. In addition, TGH is running awareness-raising sessions on hygiene and diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and cholera.
On the Education/Protection component, the project aims to promote access to quality formal and non-formal education and a safe learning environment for the most vulnerable children who are not attending school and who are at risk of dropping out.To achieve this, TGH will provide learning and teaching materials, as well as training 155 non-formal education teachers (most of whom are also involved in formal education) in the targeted schools.At the same time, back-to-school campaigns will be organised, as well as monitoring of out-of-school children and those at risk of dropping out. Psychosocial support activities for these children complete the package, and special cases will be referred to specialist services. In addition, TGH is organising a public health programme in the schools, including the supply of hygiene articles, as well as the maintenance and repair of existing toilets in the schools. In addition, minor renovation work will be carried out in 6 schools.
