This UNHCR-funded capacity-building project has been implemented by TGH in Iraq since 2017 in Kurdistan, and since January 2019 in the rest of Iraq. It responds to the increase in protection needs, particularly child protection in Iraq. Indeed, the displacement of populations from Syria and Iraq to the governorates of Kurdistan and Central/South Iraq, in addition to the COVID-19 epidemic, have limited the capacity of national institutions to provide quality services.
Through this project, TGH is building the capacity of local child protection workers, with the aim of achieving a sustainable improvement in the services offered to meet the needs of the population. TGH is developing the capacity of local players through a number of activities, including training and coaching for social workers. Training for trainers has also been set up so that the managers of these institutions can themselves train new people, with a view to ensuring the sustainability of the action. At the end of this project, TGH’s ambition is to withdraw, leaving a functional and autonomous child protection system.
