Programme details
The project aims to improve the food security of conflict-affected people in Sudan and to promote sustainable and equitable agro-pastoral development in Vakaga Prefecture. By combining the restoration of livelihoods and the strengthening of agro-pastoral capacities, TGH aims to stabilise the food and economic situation of households while reducing the sources of conflict.
To improve food security, TGH is targeting 1,000 vulnerable households, particularly in host communities. Beneficiaries will receive seeds and toolkits, as well as training in agricultural techniques. Temporary food aid is provided to protect the seeds distributed so that beneficiaries do not consume them before planting.
TGH is establishing 30 farmer field schools (FFS) to promote good agricultural practices and organising 9 awareness sessions and cooking demonstrations to diversify diets and improve the ‘use’ pillar of food security.
To strengthen the agro-pastoral sector, TGH is conducting 3 livestock vaccination and deworming campaigns, raising awareness among 3,000 livestock farmers and providing technical support to 8 veterinary centres. TGH supports 30 farmer groups by distributing kits, providing training and improving farming practices. The creation of several fruit tree nurseries and the introduction of community credit mechanisms are strengthening the autonomy and resilience of local communities.

To strengthen local and social development, TGH is building the capacity of government technical services through a number of complementary initiatives. The first is the rehabilitation and equipping of the Vakaga Prefectural Veterinary Centre, with the installation of water supply and solar energy systems to ensure a continuous and reliable service. At the same time, the project will support the construction of offices for ACDA and FNEC, and provide specific training for ACDA and ANDE staff to improve the supervision of activities in the field.
