As part of this project, TGH and its local partner, the Fondation Voix Du Cœur (FVDC), are continuing to provide support for street girls and young girls who are victims of gender-based violence in the centre of Damala.
In the broadest sense, the project helps to keep the centre running while improving the living conditions of the girls. It also encourages the girls’ social and professional reintegration and facilitates their reintegration into their families.
Carried out in the Damala centre, this project covers part of the centre’s running costs in terms of day-to-day management (staff, food, inputs, etc.). The centre’s water point is contaminated by nearby latrines. Part of the funding for this project goes towards rehabilitating it.
The young girls (30), who were left to fend for themselves before being taken into the centre, receive sewing training to prepare them for life after their stay at the centre. With the help of TGH psychosocial workers who work closely with those from FVDC, the project enables some of the young girls to be reintegrated into their families.
This project is part of a wider initiative to identify and provide holistic care for children in situations of family and social breakdown, including girls involved in prostitution networks.
