Many schools in the governorate of Hama have been extensively damaged, notably by shrapnel and bullet holes, exposing children to damp and cold. These factors contribute to children dropping out of school and discourage the reintegration of out-of-school children.TGH is renovating two of these schools (repairing walls, painting, installing doors and windows, electrical repairs, etc.) and installing latrines and drinking water points. In addition, TGH is working to improve hygiene practices among schoolchildren, by organising awareness-raising sessions and supplying essential items for implementing these practices.

To complement the above activities, TGH also distributes recreational and educational materials, such as school kits, provided by partner NGO Intersos. This ensures that the children benefit from a dignified learning environment, adapted to their mental and physical well-being and their personal development.

Through this project, TGH implements education-related activities, while Intersos handles protection-related activities.Intersos identifies children who have dropped out of school through community mechanisms, as well as those at risk of doing so. Non-formal education sessions are offered to them, as well as psychosocial support activities for all pupils. Intersos is also responsible for providing social support to the children and referring them to specialist services where necessary.

Finally, training is also offered to teachers in emergency education, learning programmes, child protection and psychosocial support.
