The primary goal is to provide life-saving and life-sustaining support to internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable host communities, and other conflict-affected populations, thereby mitigating the immediate negative impacts of the crisis. It is designed to address the critical and escalating needs of conflict-affected populations in Sudan, particularly in the states of South Darfur, West Darfur, Central Darfur, North Darfur, East Darfur, Gedaref, Al Jazeera, and Khartoum. The ongoing conflict, which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has compounded an already dire humanitarian situation, characterized by a prolonged economic crisis and pre-existing conflicts in various parts of the country. As the conflict spreads, it has led to massive displacement, disrupted livelihoods, and exacerbated vulnerabilities, with over 24.8 million people now in need of humanitarian assistance.

In the area of food security, the intervention focuses on providing unrestricted cash assistance to food-insecure households, aiming to reduce mortality and morbidity linked to hunger. Complementary activities will include strengthening market systems and improving access to livelihood opportunities, particularly in Gedaref and Geneina, to ensure that affected populations can sustain themselves over the long term.

The Protection part of the project involves community-based psychosocial support interventions to increase individual and community safety and well-being. In West and Central Darfur, Child Protection (CP) services will be provided, with an emphasis on integrating CP in Emergency in all sectors and training partners by TGH on identifying and referring protection cases.

In Shelter and Settlements, the project improves access to emergency shelter for newly displaced populations, providing them with safe and secure living conditions amid ongoing displacement.

WASH services are enhanced through emergency water provision, sanitation improvements, and hygiene promotion. The intervention utilizes the most appropriate modalities, such as water trucking or water point repairs, to ensure that affected populations have access to safe water and adequate sanitation facilities.

The consortium’s flexible and adaptive approach allows for timely responses to the evolving situation in Sudan, with the capacity to scale up interventions as new areas become accessible or as needs increase. By integrating multiple sectors and leveraging the combined expertise of consortium members, the intervention aims to provide a comprehensive and coordinated response that addresses the most urgent needs of Sudan’s conflict-affected populations while laying the groundwork for more sustainable, long-term recovery efforts.
