The earthquake in April 2015 killed around 17,000 people and injured more than 22,000. Material damage was considerable, with 160,786 houses destroyed and 143,673 partially damaged, according to a UN count on May 2, 2015.

The destruction of most health and social infrastructures has left the population extremely vulnerable. In response, in 2015, Triangle Génération Humanitaire, in partnership with ARSOW-Nepal, launched a multi-sectoral emergency reconstruction project and an immediate response to the needs in the district of Sindhupalchok (villages of Thangpaldhap, Thangpalkot and Gunsakot). However, Nepal is still suffering the consequences of these disasters and a large number of needs have yet to be met. TGH is therefore continuing to work with its partner ARSOW-Nepal on a project to rebuild houses and community infrastructure, focusing on access to water, hygiene and sanitation, and social and economic reconstruction.

With the support of the Fondation de France, the AFD and the Fondation Carasso for this second phase of the response, TGH is implementing these activities in the same district of Sindhupalchok (in the 3 villages mentioned above as well as in the neighbouring village of Bothang).

The aim of this new project is to strengthen the resilience of the local population. Its implementation follows a participatory methodology, involving both the beneficiaries themselves and government institutions through steering committees. Community consultations and community input into the work carried out are integrated to ensure that the project is owned by its beneficiaries and meets their needs as effectively as possible. A capacity-building component for our partner is also included in this project.
