This programme supports vulnerable rural populations in two regions: the governorates of Rural Damascus and Hama. Already present in the area, the NGO has the expertise to assess needs and challenges ahead, as well as an immediate operational capacity.

The programme addresses the need for access to safe drinking water and improved hygiene. It also contributes to providing children with safe and dignified learning conditions through the rehabilitation of schools and the strengthening of teachers' capacities to work in a way that is sensitive to the needs arising from the trauma experienced by children.

TGH continues the ongoing supply of drinking water by tanker trucks in Eastern Ghouta, which remains essential to ensure adequate and safe access to water. However, this aspect of the project is not intended to last because it is essentially an emergency measure. In collaboration with local actors, TGH is also restoring damaged water distribution structures, in particular by rehabilitating and equipping existing boreholes to strengthen access to water and the resilience of people affected by the conflict

In parallel, TGH focuses on education and child protection. The rehabilitation of 4 schools will encourage the many schoolchildren who have been out of school for several years to reintegrate the school system. Hygiene kits will be distributed and sensitisation to good practices will be provided in rehabilitated schools. Raising children's awareness enables the dissemination of these good practices among their family members and increases the impact of hygiene promotion sessions.  TGH also organises tutoring courses to combat the risk of dropping out of school and promote the reintegration of children who have dropped out of school due to the conflict. Teaching staff will be trained in practices to adopt in the face of an audience that has experienced violent events, and psychosocial activities will be implemented to help mitigate the consequences of the conflict.  This programme's effort towards enhanced child protection will be supported by the inclusion of communities in the proposed activities, as well as by a referral system for cases requiring the intervention of specialised actors.
