Programme details
The project directly targets 26,525 people, and will also benefit 533,953 people dependent on the water network in the city of Aden.
During this third phase, TGH will maintain its trucking activities in areas of the Al Tawahi, Al Maalla and Al Bureiqah districts where the need remains paramount, while continuing to adjust and then limit the volumes supplied. Within the Al Tawahi district, and following the example of the actions carried out in phase 2, work to rehabilitate and reinforce the water network will then be carried out in the Al Fateh neighbourhood and its sub-neighbourhoods, gradually replacing the emergency water supply with a more sustainable solution for access to water in the homes of the targeted communities. Renovating the network in this district was one of the priority operations listed by LWSCA, our implementing partner for the entire programme and also for this new phase. At the same time, hygiene awareness sessions will be organised in a number of schools in the districts concerned.
In this new phase, activities hitherto confined to water supply and hygiene will be extended in parallel to the wastewater treatment sector around one of the city’s oldest and busiest public hospitals, itself located at the heart of a district, Khor Maksar, that is particularly affected by water pollution problems. TGH will carry out the work to rehabilitate the sewage network, which for years has been a source of health risks both inside the hospital and in the surrounding area.
