TGH is working on this programme in partnership with the Korean Federation (KFCA), which is mandated to ensure the rights and interests of older people, to help them lead a dignified life and to provide them with decent living conditions.

As geriatrics is not a specialty integrated in the national medical university curriculum, KFCA wants to develop a training programme intended for medical students.
KFCA supports the National Research Institute for Gerontology, a national center created to develop research on age-related diseases (Alzheimer, blood pressure, dementia), which has been running for 40 years with very little contribution and support from the state. 70 employees of the Ministry of Health (doctors and nurses) work on research and treatment of patients (50 beds, day hospital or prolonged stay), and the Institute also issues recommendations on care and treatment for elderly people.

The programme plans, by the end of 2014, the purchase of medical equipment to meet the needs identified by KFCA, and the improvement of the Institute's working conditions.
The programme has also supported the organizing of a short (2 days) training course in geriatrics for medical students and medical practitioners. WHO and UNFPA presence during this training reinforced KFCA's image, allowing the establishment of a more regular dialogue with the authorities, and the development of synergies and initiatives at national level.

Awareness-raising brochures on care of the aged were created by KFCA and the National Research Institute for Gerontology. Some of these brochures were distributed on the occasion of the International Older Persons Day (October 1st) and will be subsequently distributed in different retirement homes in the country.
