The Ouaka prefecture has been and continues to be a gathering place for displaced populations whenever armed clashes occur on the surrounding. At the end of 2019, according to the Population Movement Commission (CMP), 21,872 IDPs were still present in the six IDPs sites in Bambari. A phenomenon of return is meanwhile observed: IDPs leave the sites to settle in neighborhoods or returnee villages. However, the distribution capacities of the SODECA (Central African Republic Water Company) are limited, and in the event of the closure of a site or the return of displaced persons, the water resources and sanitation facilities may prove insufficient. The spread of waterborne diseases or epidemics is an additional risk.

In order to remedy this, TGH provides vulnerable populations with an emergency system consisting of water trucking, chlorination points. At the same time, activities are being carried out in Bambari as well as on the axes (Kouango, Ippy, Alindao) concerning the rehabilitation of wells, motorized drilling, the construction of semi-durable latrines or the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of sanitary areas on the sites of displaced persons. Finally, a hygiene awareness and promotion component is constantly being implemented for both adults and children. In order to promote the sustainability of this access, TGH reinforces the community participation of the beneficiary populations.
